The Farewell Dinner

The Old and the New

AQ Office: Maj Gen Fazl-i-Ilahi, Col Comdt EME Corps and DG EME,  was dinned out in a spectacular dinner function arranged here in college on 4th of July 08. The General retired after serving for more than 36 years. The New DG, in his farewell speech, gave a brief account of a very illustrious and glittering career of the Retiring General. He mentioned, “Gen Fazl-i-Ilahi was commissioned in 20 EME Bn/FWO from where he posted to 80 EME Bn/6 Armd Div and College of E&ME as instr Cl ‘C’ and then served in 502 Central Wksp EME. The Gen Offr got sel for secondment to Saudi Mil Msn, Yemen. On return he was posted to 93 EME Bn/37 Div. Subsequently he served as Dy Asst Dir ITD, Assistant Director ITD and then proceeded abroad for MSc at USA. On prom to the rank of Col he was posted to EME Dte as DDEME. On completion of his asg at EME Dte, the Gen Offr was posted to HIT where he had a tenure of 3 years as Dir HIT, The Gen Offr also served as Dir ITD before assuming the appt of DG ITD. In 2002 he was appointed as DG EME which he continued till todate.”. He further mentioned his major extra ordinary contributions towards betterment of Corps of EME in particular and for the army in general. “He resisted the unconsidered and ill-conceived measures of restructuring with short term and

limited benefits to Army. His one of the landmark achievements has been getting the con of the prime input of spare parts, against all odds and resistance from many quarters. The short sighted and imprudent moves to dismantle the 4th line repair capability of Corps through closure, merger or drastic reduction in size of Base Wksps were successfully resisted by the Gen Offr and besides proc of modern machinery for B Wksps there has been unprecedented induction of Rec Vehs, Shop Vans and Mob Wksps in EME thus enhancing the potential of the Corps.”. The Accompanied Dinner was attended by large number of serving and retired officers of EME Corps.
